Variations on a theme: Cannot create DAE deck

I went through past postings on this issue, and although there are a lot of them, no one seems to be having the same problem I am having. I just installed 6.0.1 a few days ago, got the "Unable to craete DAE deck" message, so uninstalled and reinstalled, and that seemed to fix the problem.

But then it happened again. I seem to remember something about anti-virus software interfering with Pro Tools somewhere, so I went into Norton and disabled all the automatic scanning features, and that fixed it.

Then it happened again, so I just rebooted, and that fixed it.

This morning, it happened again, and rebooting this time didn't fix it. Tried 3 times. So once again went into Norton, and everything was still turned off, but just for fun I turned it on and turned it off again, and rebooted, and this time it worked.

Can you explain this odd behavior?

Anyone else experiencing inconsistent behavior like this? I got the impression from reading the other posts that when it was happening, it was consistent and happened every time.
