Default 002R isn\'t starting up properly...won\'t communicate w/mac

Hello,

I just upgraded to LE 7.4. I also just downloaded 10.4.11 Tiger. The first time I launched, everything was fine. I pulled up a session and began playback. About 1 minute into the song, the hardware suddenly loses communication with the software. After quitting pro tools, I powered down the 002, and then powered it back on. It usually clicks 3 times, and then the 44.1 LED turns on. This isn't happening. I tried powering down the computer, and unplugging/re-plugging the fire wire cable. No change. It seems that the hardware isn't starting up properly. I can't get the box to communicate.

I did a search and found info on the power harness issue. Anyone with experience think that this is what the problem is? I am using a mac pro dual 2.66.

Thanks

M

If you aren't plugged into anything except power, and the relays don't click 3 times when you power it on then it def sounds like a hardware issue, and most people will say, "Yeah it's probably the power harness." Contact Digi about it.

Thanks

It's strange. I can get it to work if I let it sit for about an hour. However, it loses communication with the software minutes after the session has started. Is this common with a hardware failure? (works, doesn't work, etc.)

note: I am knocking on every piece of wood within arms distance... I haven't had a hardware failure yet, but it seems that if your 002R is working periodically and being sketchy, its more likely a hardware issue than software. Although 10.4.11 isn't officially supported by Digi. 10.4.9 is as high as they officially support. Not to sound like a broken record on every one of these posts tonight, but have you downloaded the Pre-Binding Script?

http://www.paceap.com/prebind_script.dmg

May not help but worth a try.

The prebinding download said something to the effect of: Pre binding doesn't need repair. I think this thing is kaput.

Is there a hardware exchange between the 002 and 003? I was looking on the digidesign site and couldn't see it listed.

thanks

best bet is to contact Digi directly. If it the harness its gonna be cheaper then swapping up to the 003, and frankly other than word clock and an extra headphone jack....... well you get the picture.
