Default MIDI Automation lane visible causes slow midi editing

All of a sudden about a week ago Pro Tools started becoming super slow when editing midi. I try to change the length of a note and the hour glass comes up. The cause is MIDI automation (MOD wheel etc) and only when the automation lanes are visible in the edit window, if I close the automation lanes there is no problem. The more MIDI automation there is the slower it becomes until it eventually becomes unusable.

Normal automation doesn’t cause any issues.

I was on 2022.05, I've now upgraded to 2022.07 and the problem remains. I've just spent about 4 hours trying to roll back to 2022.04 to see if that was okay. I was unable to get 2022.04 to work.

Preference have been trashed. No difference.

I really hope someone has a solution or workaround for me. I've got a deadline to meet and I'm now at least a day behind.

I've had that since PT10. Really frustrating. It was easier to edit MIDI in a $15 DAW I had in the mid 90s than in recent versions of PT.

Oh man, that's not what I want to hear! It's only started recently for me. I have opened an AVID support case, hopefully they can come up with something.

I notice you have two different rigs, do you notice any difference with this problem between the two?

I only do MIDI on the Windows machine. Windows at home, Mac at work. I'd absolutely LOVE to have an M1 Max at home for my music hobby, but $4100 vs the $1800 I paid for the HP Xeon...
