Default Penteo 16 Pro sounds different

Hi everyone,

I took my mix to a different studio the other day to make deliverables, I was punching in to my stems when I noticed my music sounded off, and the waveforms confirmed it. After extensive investigation, we discovered it was Penteo 16 Pro was running a different point release. When I got home, I tried running a few different versions and noticed they all outputted very different results.

I'm working on a few longterm projects at the moment and concerned about upgrading, now or in the future, in case it sounds completely different.

Anyone else noticed this?

Penteo 2.2.1 to 2.2.3 had different sound (a bug not reading the parameters correctly). Reported and fixed.
All sessions saved with v 2.2.1 reopen incorrectly in v 2.2.3 Also reported and fixed.
A v3.0.0 was incompatible backward to v2.2.3 - reported and fixed.

I am running now v4.1.3 well on all my previous sessions too.

I've had several issues with Penteo 16.
v2.1.1 was bugged, ITU folddown was even incorrect,
v2.2.0 was bugged but only not for 5.1 and set to 'on phase'.
v2.2.1 was bugged but only the 7.1 upmix, the 5.1 was good.
v2.2.4 was kinda bugged, showed lots of back surround in 7.1 when the source is very narrow/mono (this happened in earlier versions as well and could be by design but is not something I'd prefer).

In the end we stuck to Penteo 7 as it's too much hassle to bugcheck each release. We might try Penteo again in the Apple Silicon era, but for now we moved on to something else.

I was using Halo even before its initial release (was a beta tester), it is great for some music but overall Penteo 16 is my go to up-mixer today.
Halo had few bugs as well so I wouldn't pick up either plugin for their flawless release behavior

I am sure that Apple Silicon will bring its own challenges.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Yeah, iIthink we will just have to note which versions were running during each mix and save it as a text file with the session.

I wish there was a prompt upon opening penteo (or all other plugs) to say something like "Hey, looks like you were using version ## previously, click here to get that version etc etc..."

But hey, we can dream.
