Hello again, and thanks for the answers.
A few more questions by the novice:

I am about to buy a DIGI001 and a powerful mac. My goal is to record an entire album at home, on the computer with PTLE. Since i write and record electro-rock/industrial music, i need the analog inputs only for vocals and guitars. I would like to run a few software synths and directconnect them to PT. Considering i have enough speed and ram in my mac and a control keyboard, do u think this system will be enough for me, with no other outboard gear? What softsynths can connect to the PT?

Don't waste your money on a MAC get a AMD approved system, you will get more plug in's and more for your money. You will save about $1000

There is nothing a mac can do that AMD can't do better for alot less!!!!
