Default Mbox 2 Pro sudden latency issue

Today the recording progress stopped, as we suddenly got a lot of latency tracking guitars. No problems earlier, but today it came out of nowhere. Changing buffer sizes etc did nothing, I even fired up a brand new session, and it was still there. After shutting down PT, the sound coming through the Mbox still had the same latency. What could be the cause of this? Any ideas?

Hello.

Have you installed any new plugins recently ?

Have you tried removing all third party plugins to the unused plugins folder and trashing preferences ?

Hello, and thanks for the reply. I haven't done anything recently. Just finished up a successful session this weekend, then next time this weird latency issue was suddenly there. I find it hard to be any of the points listed, as the problem is there even if PT is not even running. Only the Mbox functioning as a normal sound card, and the latency is still there. Any PT tweaks only affects what happens when the program is running, no?

Everytime I run into problems with the rig, I start drooling over a Mac, which leads me to the follow-up question: Now my sessions shall eventually contain one midi track with Superior 2.0, five to seven tracks with Amplitube, and some vocal tracks. Now I'm reaching 70-80% on the CPU meter with only four of the Amplitube tracks and the S2.0 midi track yet in place.

Is there no getting away from the fact that my machine is just too weak? If I have to get yet another machine, I am seriously thinking about a mac instead. Would a MacBook Pro perform good enough for my sessions without having to make plugins inactive to make it work etc?

Advice appreciated. A workstation is not an option right now, hence the laptop obsession.

Of course, if my Mbox 2 Pro is screwed, I've got worse problems
