Drive partitions
I've heard different schools of thought regarding how to partition hard drives for audio. I've heard that you shouldn't partition at all and just have one big drive.....and I've heard that you should partiton because locating files is faster if the system doesn't have to search the entire drive to find them.
I have 40 gig drives which have two partitions each (roughly 20/20). This seems to work fine, but what is best?

Re: Drive partitions
4-6G is most efficient. I have mine at 10G though - just cuz they fill up so fast. Anything larger and things start to get a little sluggish.

Re: Drive partitions
When I purchased my externals, both digidesign and the companies who built my firewire drives suggested partitioning (10 gigs each partition). Partitioning always seems to be a good idea when working with apps like Pro Tols or photoshop and you have a huge hard drive. Good luck!

Re: Drive partitions
Does anyone know if you can partition a drive without having to "erase" the contents?
I've also read that one should stay away from putting data in the "inner most" ring of the drive as it's the slowest part. That could be a no-brainer though. I'm sorta new at this whole "partition" thing, so pardon my ignorance. Jason
