What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
I noticed on my Desktop Machine and my macbook that Avid Link is using a lot of CPU even when ProTools is not running. What is it doing?
I luckily found the uninstaller. Would I have any disadvantages not having Avid Link installed?

Re: What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
This bloatware app is best uninstalled and forgotten about. Uninstallers are on your system, discussed many times in the past on DUC.

Re: What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
The newest version of Avid Link has a quit app feature which shuts down the app going forward until you open it again.

Re: What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
My version of dealing with Avid Link has a "never think about this badly implemented mess" again feature. All this bloatware and it's piles of built-in software stack dependencies worries me just from a security viewpoint. I sure would not be running it in a major studio environment.

Re: What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
Yeah just get rid of it. There's an "avid uninstallers" folder somewhere in your applications where you can get rid of it, and its processes .

Re: What is Avid Link Application actually doing?
There are no issues with uninstalling it and the rest of PT will work just fine.
It is intended as a utility where you can check for Avid product updates from a single app, check your cloud usage, collaboration messages plus a few other online/social tools. So, pretty much a dashboard for your Avid stuff. I’m not sure why it was using a lot of CPU. There are background processes that run to gather the info it displays, although it shouldn’t do this for extended periods of time. Again, if your not interested in the information it displays, there is no harm in removing it. |
