Nope! you need to use Audiosuite plugins to render the effects to your tracks. This will free up valuable CPU cycles.

But keep in mind, if you, for example, process an EQ with AudioSuite, you can't remove it later, as I believe you can in Logic....? So if you need to be able to do this, make sure you apply the EQ, or other... to a duplicate take of your track...

Yep,

1) Save your RTAS settings.
2) Create duplicate track. <-- EDIT: should read duplicate playlist.
3) Load up the corresponding AS plug-in varient.
4) Recall settings.
5) Process.

Sorted.

Of course, a "Freeze" function would make life less green on the other side of the fence.

I never said the parent file was deleted. I was just saying that, since most of us do more than push record at the start of a session, track a song, and push stop before we mix, it is a more complicated process.

My tracks typically have many cuts, pastes, edits, comps etc... How would you ever reassemble this from your file list?!? You'd have multiple parent files and they don't all start from one starting point. It'd be impossible. Also, by the time you discover that the EQ, or other you applied isn't just right, you'd be undoing through 20 or more minutes of work to revert back, then working ANOTHER 20 mintues to get back to where you were...

Just duplicate your playlist on the track your working with, then click anywhere on the track, hit cmd + A and process it all. That's the easiest, most-flexible way.

Have to agree with Boosix here. Duplicating and using AS plug-ins really helps free up cpu power. But then again, after going to PT7LE, I haven`t maxed out my CPU once yet..

I don't get your post, Radiomoo. Booksix presents the more elegant solution, using a duplicate playlist. He is taking advantage of Pro Tools' powers.

If I'm wrong I would enjoy the education--

If you need to freeze Insturments traks (no AS available) you can:
1. route outs to an audio track (using busses, of course);
2. bounce your tracks (solo button required);
3. buy a software like silverspike tapeit 2 or download the free version of tapeit 1.0;
