Default need help sync\'ing PT to SVP

I have setup PT4.01 as follows :
in the session setup window it shows "send MTC to IAC Bus #1"
I have set MIDI through and active in background

StudioVisionPro 3.5.6 is setup as follows :
Sync Options shows receive MidiTimeCode on IAC Bus #1, remote start is enabled
MIDI active in background is enabled.
I have checked the IAC Bus#1 in the Input Devices window and have checked "input devices enabled"

My interface is a Studio4, OS is 7.6.1, it's a 7100/66 with 132MB Ram and a NewerTech G3 upgrade card.

What is happening is : when I click start in the ProTools transport I can see timecode in both ProTools and StudioVisionPro however the bar counter in SVP doesn't move....

Help ! I'm obviously doing something wrong but cannot figure out what it is.

Sounds like the two are sending/recieving code. Make sure your PT session start time is (session setup window) is slightly before the SVP sequence start time (in the "i" menu of the individual sequence window). Remember that SVP's start time indicator also includes a sub frame counter. I sometimes put in the wrong start time if I'm in a hurry.

Peter

-ALWAYS Disable the “Use Apple SerialDMA driver when available” option in OMS.
-Enable “Run MIDI In Background” in the OMS MIDI Setup window.

I have the same s/w version set up, and I use the exact same settings for "IAC Bus #1" that you have in both SVP and PT's.
However, in SVP, I do not have the 'remote start' button checked though.
If you press start in PT's and you're seeing timecode displayed in SVP, the IAC is working.
Are you setting the transport in SVP to "MIDI Time Code", and then pressing 'play'?

This should work fine, I've used this set up for a long time now. The only hassle is the delay between start up of PT's and SVP - this is about 4 sec. Looping does not work for me either.

I am really hoping PT 5.0 allows me to do away with SVP, since I probably only use 10% of the features in SVP.

Dave and all -

We have found (in initial tests and sessions) that - believe it or not - using Vision as the master is a cleaner lock (you don't have to wait that 4 secs). The setup is for the composer who does 75% of his work sequencing samplers, but needs some good audio to record live parts as he goes... Anyhow, using Vision as the master
- is more intuitive for him
- locks more quickly
- is easier since PT will just stay "online," while you have to constantly go back and hit "play" in Vision for it to play with code...

Just some miscelaneous thoughts for you all. We're also hoping that PT5 will serve as a good enough sequencer to stop worrying about all this...

Uncheck the "remote start" checkbox.

I think. I'm not in front of my setup now.

thanks to everyone for the tips and advice.
the two things that I changed were :
1. the name of the IAC bus was changed to simply "IAC1"
2. the SMPTE start time was moved from all zeros (DOH !) to 00:01:00:00

...now I've discovered that Studio Vision Pro (!) 3.5.6 doesn't like having start time changed. .. . it crashes when I enter a simple start time !

nonetheless it has definitely helped.

Thanks again everyone ...

....now if I could get my ADAT interface working ok I'd be a very happy camper...
