Default Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

My regimen; Once the OS and all drivers are loaded, and I have done all system tweaks and added Quicktime and iLok software, I save a drive image. Then I install Pro Tools and all Avid stuff(Creative Collection and any extra plugins) and save another drive image. Then I install 3rd party stuff(with sample libraries going to a separate drive). Once I install the last of my software and have all updates in place, and everything authorized, I save a 3rd system drive image. This makes rolling back to certain points relatively painless. After a solid month of good performance, I clone my system drive so I have a backup. Then, before any(and I mean ANY) future update or install of ANYTHING, I swap in the cloned system drive and install whatever new stuff I have. If that proves to be solid for a month, either save a new image or do another clone(rotating a pair of system drives). I know it seems like a lot of work, but its cheap insurance(remember, all this is just about the system drive I also backup all sessions and keep a clone of my samples drive)

My very quick question..

I've done a bit of searching and am yet to see anyone running the HD Native Thunderbolt on a PC. Is anyone doing that? I've been looking on the Avid site to see if it's even supported, but can't find a clear answer...

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance..

MC

Indeed, I watched a video of a Lenovo laptop with Thunderbolt working rather nicely

Trying to get a year or two more out of my first gen i7 board. Ex58a-ud3r. I just got a great deal on an i7 980x. The 6 core extreme edition. I am adding another 12 GB of RAM to bring it up to 24 and a water cooler. I will post in a few days what this antique will put out on the Deverb test.

I have the same 950 and 12gb ram at the moment.

I am hoping this will get me over a hump.

I'm looking at the system requirements for Pro Tools 11 to se what Graphics Card is reccomended.

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...m-Requirements

But I can't se any spesific card reccomended any longer. It just says : Dedicated Graphics Card highly recommended.

Is it possible to by anything now ?
I'm thinking about upgrading to a new graphics card and bigger screen.

Define "bigger screen" I run a 32" LED TV at 1920x1080 with a lowly GeForce 610 1GB card(and previously with a PNY GeForce 210 card) and it looks great. AFAIK, nVidia is still preferred over ATI cards(but many of them are also working). I'd say to get the best advice, let us know exactly what your new screen will be

After much research, I've decided to have PC Audio Labs build, test and support my recording rig.

Thanks for the help. I'll report back. So far, sales process has been very good. They really take the time to listen to your needs, budget and walk/talk through options. Also, not a hard sell. They want you to be comfortable and confident in your build.
