Default out put level problem

Hi everyone,
I'm using 002 rack le pro tools 7.3.1.After recording a test vocal track I notice in playing back the vocal track that the play back sound NOT THE METER LEVEL but the out put sound volume is lower then I't was when I was laying down the track. I'm monitoring from 002 rack headphone jack, also using vocal mic 4033 and mic cable strait into the 002 nothing else in between one track only no plugins for this test.I have to normalize the track about 40% in order to get the volume back to the original sound volume. Recap, The meter levels are the same. It's the play back volume I,m having trouble with. Any help would be great! Thanks for your time.

Make sure you're recording in PreFade Listening mode and playing back post fade, ie, with pfl unchecked. If you haven't already done so, create a master fader channel, set the fader to unity and check the output level there.

Under 'Options' / PreFade Listening. You could also benefit from reading the manual - all this kind of stuff is covered therein and would save you a lot of grief!
