Default Screen Sharing - PT having issues when Overdubbing using VNC remote

HI there.

So, I got given an ipod touch for Xmas and have been very excited to use it to control pro tools from the tracking room.
I downloaded a basic free VNC app and I have no problem syncing up with the Mac Pro using OSX's built in screen sharing, except that I get constant errors when overdubbing saying "please increase Hardware buffer size." thing is I usually have no errors at all at 32 or 64 samples with my 002r, and I have plenty of space on the drive, hardly any plugs, and an 8-core mac pro.

So I tried the usually trouble shooting, deleting prefs etc, but it seems the issue is that when Screen sharing is on the computer does not like it and bogs down.

So my Question is.

Does ProTools not like running with screen sharing? Or is my "free VNC" app the problem? Or the ipod touch?

I'm really digging being able to play and press record from the next room, so I'd love to get this up running.

If any users have had this issue and know a solution I'd much appreciate it!

thanks,

Joel

Ok. So I did some more tests (using a laptop to screen share) and it's definitely ProTools not liking screen sharing being on.

It does not seem to depend on the App or whether you use VNC or regular Mac Screen sharing to connect. ProTools does not like recording when Screen sharing is active.

I never tried this in ProTools 7 or 8, so is this a new issue, or an old issue, or just my issue?

thanks!

If anyone from AVID could chime in on this I'd really appreciate it.

I need a remote way of controlling PT while in the tracking room, and if Screen Sharing interferes with PT's Low latency recording operation, then I need to figure out another solution.

thanks,

Man, I'm getting frustrated. I tried again using the VNC screen sharing remote on a small session with all plugs bypassed and I keep getting error-6086 ("the operating system held off interupts for too long etc etc").

No issues at all when not using screen sharing.

Can someone from AVID please chime in? is there something I need to do to set up my system to work properly with screen sharing?

I have not tried this with ProTools 8 so I don't know if it's a new issue, but apparently other users have said this worked fine with PT8.

I'd love to know if this is a bug, or if there is something I can do inside my system to make it work.

thanks

I've seen this too when using remote desktop via a MacbookPro to MacPro. Just does not work for some reason.

Hmmm, It Seems that some people have had it work no problems with PT8.

I am using a 2008 Mac Pro 2.8ghz Octo core. It Runs awesome with PT9 except for this issue. What type of Mac Pro are you using?

Perhaps it has something to do with this?

Would LOVE to figure this out!

cheers,
Joel

Hmm. Since no one else has chimed in, perhaps it's something with our particular 2008 Model Mac Pro?

Maybe we should both do some tests trying to Screen Share with our laptops or other computer and see if this still happens?
