Default Monterey and 2022.9

Thinking of making the jump from Catalina to Monterey. How is everyone with Monterey doing? I using on a trashcan... Is the OS stable enough?

I'd used Monterey on a trashcan for a couple months and found it to be very stable. There have been several OS updates since then so it's likely only gotten better.

There have been a few reports of Monterey pauses/SWOD, I've had that (on my 2019 i9 MBP) and still not been able to fully eliminate it, not a Pro Tools only issue.

Do not do an in-situ upgrade and/or do not have a way not to quickly roll back.

I’m in similar situation (want to upgrade because new aux features working on big sur and up only) and thinking what will be better Big sur or Monterey. I must say that my system work in pro studio and I didn’t updating it a lot in past. 6 years with Mountain Lion then, 4 years on Yosemite and only 2 on catalina (with new comp).

Aux IO actually WORKS on Mohave. Yes, you heard me right. They say it 'might' work, but is only supported on Big Sur. I tested it only lightly, but it certainly works on my cMP 2009 2x3.46

Yup, Aux IO working on Catalina as well. Same warnings but so far the function is there. I'm probably upgrading soon anyway, just because it's time

Yeah.....Still on Catalina on one machine and Mojave on another because of the 32 bit thing. I'm not wanting to go to Big Sur or Monterey because those OS's are intended for Apple silicon. I'm still on a intel macs.
Planning on upgrading to M2 MBP when they finally come out.

Hopefully Avid will be native by then?

No issues at all with Monterey whatsoever. I went from Catalina to Monterey easily with my Trash Can Mac.

I run a lot of co-install tests with both Pro Tools and Media Composer, and I'd rank Monterey as the smoothest and least impactful macOS, plus it seems to handshake with not only Avid's apps best, but it also seems to handle all of the background stuff (like Dropbox etc) the smoothest.

Secondly I'd rank Catalina. Although it was the first volley by Apple into the fully 64-bit ecosystem, later point releases of it became quite smooth.

BigSur is my least favorite, feeling buggy, plus having some never-quite-fixed issues with multiple displays. Occasionally I get glitchy I/O as well.

All three work, but time and time again, I find I'm happiest on a Monterey machine.

Side note - I'm also running Monterey on a trashcan, and love it.
