Default G4 supports higher voice count than G5 at 192?

Hi all,

Can anyone explain why Digi's compatibility page for HD Accel shows 36 voices @ 192KHz on a Dual-1.2GHz G4, but only 24 voices @ 192 on a G5? How could that be?

TIA

I believe the information you are referencing is specific to systems with an expansion chassis. With no expansion chassis, both G4 and G5 can achieve 36 voices at 192k (requires 6 SCSI drives).

Due to architectural changes in the PCI bus, the track count for 192k on a G5/expansion chassis system is only qualified up to 24 tracks (requires 64-bit chassis). If you need both a chassis and 36 tracks of 192k, a 64-bit chassis and a fast G4 is the only supported config.

Where can I find a list with trackcount vs number of scsi-drives @ sampling rate?

Thanks, Niels

Is 6 the maximum number of scsi-drives you can use on a hd-system with the scsi-128 card? G4 1.42 dual? Or can you get a higher trackcount @ 192 khz with more drives?

With a G4 and 64 bit expansion chassis (or G4 internal), 36 voices are the max. More SCSI drives won't take it any higher.
