Renaming Regions WTF?

I know it sounds basic. Double click with the Grabber tool, and rename a region, right? It works on 3 of my 4 edit suites. On the bogus suite, the Shift+Apple+R trick brings up the Rename region dialog box, as does double clicking on the region in the audio bin.
However, double clicking on a region with the grabber tool while on a track will NOT bring up the rename dialog.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to see what the differences are, and can't come up with anything.
Anybody ever seen this one before?

OS 10.2.8
G4 MDD dual 1 GHZ w/SuperDrive
512 MEG RAM
ProTools 6.1 TDM
ProControl
(2) 1622 interfaces per suite.
