Default Imac firewire mini?

Hey guys,
I want to use my 002 factory with an Imac. But when I looked at the Imac I noticed that it only has the firewire mini. I had heard something about the firewire mini not working with the 002 or not providing enough data transfer.
Is it possible to use the firewire mini port? I want to know before I go out and either get a new cable or an adaptor to take my regular 002 firewire, since the cable the came with my 002 is regular firewire on both ends...
Thanks

Which iMac has a 4-pin FW port?

Are you sure you don't mean a FW800 port? Which certainly isn't mini... should be a rectangle almost the size of an ethernet port.

Check out the size differences here:

Either way... you can use a converter cable for either. Just make sure you get the right one.

Yeah my Imac has the "firewire 800 9-pin beta" connector but my cable from my 002 has the "firewire 400 6-pin alpha" connector.

A FW400>FW800 cable will fix that no problem.

Would I be better to get a new cable with the proper connectors on the ends? Or just buy a single adaptor to convert my cable?
Also wouldnt it be more expensive to buy the whole cord than to just buy the converter part?

Yes.

Technically... but irrelevant. You can get them off eBay for next to nothing, and even computer stores should sell them for $10-$15.

If you have a quad interface external hard drive like a Lacie d2 or similar, plug the HDD into the FW800 then connect the Digi 002 to the FW400 on the HDD. Easy.
