Default SampleTank \'tanks\' - similar experiences?

Ran searches and hit the 6.1 survey FAQ. Still have a unique situation that hasn't been posted (as I could find).

Using sampleTank (w/o amplitude et al) and midi feeding outboard gear. after I drop in my midi data, then play along w/ my sample-stank drum kit, I get a full PT lockup & have to reboot. I've re-installed the software 3 times, (dropped the update offered on the website), have a perfectly optimized system w/ 1GB of ram. It happens consistently.

Hmm.

Anyone else have an issue like this, or did i miss a key feature?

thanks

Oh, wow. I started a new session using my full version of reason (2.5) with no sample tank and after 5 minutes of operation I got a lockup again.

ouch.

will be calling tech support.

How much physical RAM do you have installed, and which version of Pro Tools?

oh no, you're here to help me again!

I've reinstalled 6.1 & then 6.1.1 since last post. reinstalled ASIO & wavedrivers after PT.

running:

ASUS p4b533 motherboard
p4 2.2ghz
1GB PC2700 DDR Ram
running 60GB main drive,
120GB raids

worked fine w/ 5.3.1, nary a problem for a very long time.

I've reinstalled since the last post, 6.1 & then 6.1.1 fresh from digi (asio & wavedriver removed ahead of time)still crashes after 5 min - it's like the sound engine just locks up.

being protools certified and setting up several TDM systems, this shouldn't be happening, but I can't figure it out.

uninstalled all software for which i don't have an ILOK yet, turned of network card, have an optimized XP system per 5.3.1.

ugh.

wish I could figure this out. One studio day down.

Have you set your processor scheduling to background services and set your initial page size to 1065?

Which Digi hardware? How are your IRQ's set up? What brand/model mouse?

Do you have any other apps like IE running when this happens?

Thanks, had background proc set. I guess I had locked pagefiling at 768 some time ago, bumped it up to 1065 right now. could that have done it? hm.

I'm installed in slot 2, bus 2, device 10, func 0

I have an IRQ of 22 (hee hee) although not so funny, as that puts it pretty low on the totem... I've really had no trouble in the past. might be time to change, as I think I've read about 001's favoring 10? I suppose to change I go to regedit or msconfig (i think i remember seeing it one of those places)

i am running a 001, and did pull ALL my RTAS plugins out(besides stock & bundle) If I pull out ST & crew, i'll need to reauthorize to reinstall..

Thanks for your correspondence

Could you go to Device manager and look at your IRQ list and either grab a screenshot or list here every IRQ being used?

I'd still like to know which mouse you're using and if another app (Internet Explorer) is running when this happens. Before my system melt down, and I replaced the motherboard and did a fresh XP reinstall.. sometimes if I was using the mouse wheel in IE with Pro Tools open in the background it would cause a system crash -- since Digi say not to use any other apps while using Pro Tools, technically this couldn't be called a bug Since reinstalling XP and a new motherboard, this no longer happens.

IRQ world:

ha, i took my screenshot, but dont know how to post here, so here's the longhand:

(all ISA)
0. sys timer
1. standard MS ps/2 keybd
3. com 2
4. com 1
6. floppy
8. sys cmos/realtime clock
12 . MS ps/2 mouse (intellipoint) - wireless infrared
13. numeric data proc
14. primary ide channel
15 2nd ide channel
22. MS ACPI compliant sys (HMM,sharing w/ 002)

(PCI)
16. intel usb host cntrl C2
16. Nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400
18. usb host ctrl C7
19. usb host crl c4
19. firewire ctrl (disabled currently)D
20. INTEL NETWORK CONNEX
22 DIGI 001
22 WINXP promise fastrack 133 controller oh, this might do it - raid ctlr on same IRQ
23. intel pci to usb enhanced ctrlr

whew.

spent some time w/ support this a.m. - deleted dae prefs folder, ptp files under user settings (hidden), uninstalled *both* pace files, the all digi software & drivers.

I reinstalled, and I worked on a session (pretty heavily) until **CRASH** audio engine locked up. forced PT closed, then have to reboot to get it to work again. i've been on support hold for over 30 min now...

most everyone's got a PT sob story. ugh. anyway, if you can think of anything

oh, got off support. er, unsupport? he says that although my raid has always worked fine, he says PC's can randomly act up, and won't work until the offender is disabled.

hm.

interested in your opinion. thanks for your time

I'm apt to agree.. the problem is more than likely due to either the RAID card being on the same IRQ (try shifting things around if you can), or the presence of the RAID drive.. can you disable it and still boot up to see what happens? The first thing I did with my new motherboard was to disable the Promise RAID controller.

Swapped slots til I got 001 alone on IRQ 21. went into bios & disabled serial & com ports. Cleaned the whole studio (catharsis?).

Loaded up a heavy session, let it loop for 2 hours and no crash! er, well, we'll see tomorrow, lotsa editing.

I'll post anything new (hopefully nothing but smilies!) as it arises.

thanks again for your attention. Oh, very exciting - you on the Me'shell album. I take it as a test CD, have seen her several times, and never put the two & two together. Beautiful work. Did you have a hand on her upcoming album?

can I ask you some questions about PbP on a new thread? hm...

regardless, thanks again for your support over this 6.1 stuff.
