Default Pls Help - strong lags while editing clips.

Hi there!

I've found out PT 12 (i tried both 12.3 and 12.5 and 12.5.1) start lagging while editing.
The more crossfades i have - the longer PT reacts on clip move/split/crossfade command. In session with 6 drum multitracks edited with Beat Detective response time is around 10-15 second. ANd for this time pro tools is Not Answering to the Windows System.
If only i select and delete all the crossfades in session - PT operates fast and smooth.

PT10 and PT11 works perfect in the same session.

First i noticed this edit problems appears in session created in PT 12. As i start editing - in 30 minutes every new edit start lagging (not happening immideatly, but with some 0.5-1 sec delay). So i checked some previous session with a lot of edits done in PT11 without any problems. And here lagging is 7-10 sec any time i move clips, split or delete, creating fades. Pro Tools shows (Not Responding) in windows title. If PLAY pressed than music still sounds without pops, clicks and glitches, while this edit delay happens and GUI is not refreshing. So music is on, but the graphic is frozen (play markers, meters, time ruler numbers)

I tried to launch session from :
1) External USB Hard Drive - each edit lags for 8 sec
2) Internal RAID massive - each edit lags for 8 sec
3) Internal system SSD drive - each edit lags for 8 sec

I tried Disk Cash normal and up to 20 Gb.
In system usage Memory was 80%, and Disk Cash was green. Still the same each edit lags for 8 sec

I tried next optimisation advices.
1) Latest drivers for my ASUS HD 7770 video card.
I even bought ASUS Nvidia GTX 750 Ti and installed with latest drivers.
2) Latest Network udupter drivers.
I also tried to disable LAn from Windows, to delete drivers and to Disable onboard LAN from BIOS.
3) Disable Turbo Boost and C-State from BIOS.
Even try to disable Hyperthreading
4) My Power Mode is set to Maximum performance, never sleep, never turn off Hard Disk.
5) I always run PT as administrator
6) I don't archive any disks and index them with Windows utilites.
7) I use Background service option in Processor Shedule
8) I don't have any Screen Savers
9) User Account Control is Off
10) I tried to disable desktop composition
11) I don't use any antivirus and Windows Brandmauer (Firewall) is Off.
12) I have Texas Instrument Fire-Wire, so selecting 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy) made my UAD Apollo sound card unavaliable for Pro Tools
I also tried

1) Cear Win 7 installation
2) Win 10 installation
3) PT 11 installation - PT11 had no this problem at the same PC with same drivers and settings. And as i suppose PT11 and PT12 has pretty close architecture, 64-bit, aax and so on.

If only i delete all fades/crossfades from session PT responds on edit with just some 0.3-0.5 sec delay in large session and no delay in small sessions.

So pls, help me and let me know - how does amount of crossfades could freeze all my edits.
What about sound performance - it seems to be perfect, no lags, clicks and pops, smooth play, huge amount of plugins including 3d party, fast offline bounce.
But when it comes to edit - thats hell. I am pretty sure PT 12 should be optimised even better than PT10 and PT11.

Long shot but worth a look...go into BIOS and make sure there isn't a floppy drive controller running in the background. Even though there's not even a PORT for a floppy drive, there's likely a controller anyway. Disable it, save and exit (F10) and see if that helps.

The motherboard doesn't provide a floppy drive connector. (from manual)
And i haven't seen any mention about floppy in bios.

I'll check it twice. But i am working for 3 years on this computer starting from PT 10 and never had such problems(

I see this as well on my laptop, but not on my desktop. I assumed it was because I am running Intel Graphics on my laptop with no hardware acceleration.

When it happens it is extremely annoying! In my cases, fades don't make a difference, just need a lot of edits.

Does your video card support hardware acceleration?

What happens if you disable the asus card, and try running the onboard graphics? I noticed that you are using an AMD card and not an Nvidia card.

It's not ideal, but perhaps this will help narrow down the issue.

Since i start fighting this problem i also tried Asus Nvidia GTX 750Ti and separate Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 750 Ti, as i heard this model was kinda reccomended for PC and Pro Tools.
Still no any result. I thought no sence to buy more expensive game videocards.

My motherboard have no any video ports to connect Monitor, and no any mention about internal graphic

In fact video itself works normal, fast scroll and fast zoom in heavy project looks smooth and fast. No any lags.
I even worked with video and no problems with any graphics.

But exactly when i make some move/delete clip/split/fade - all PT windows stop responding and refreshing for 8 seconds. No meteres are moving, no numbers changing, no cursor line moving across the music, no mouse cursor changes it's view when i move it to any part of the screen it should (i mean hand to drag, line to select or arrows to change track size)

I was trying to find this floppy thing in bios and once again i disabled some more overclocking options and i physicly disconnect DVD-rom.

So freeze time reduce from 8 to 6.48 seconds.

I also tried replace my strange Ripjaws X Series RAM (32 Gb) at modern Kingston Fury (16 gB just to check it out) and still no any result.

I am loosing my mind as the only thing i haven't changed yet is Motherboard and Processor itself.

I have very popular Asus Motherboard and well known i7, and i can't believe i am the only person in the world with such a problem.
I can't find any close case in google.

I notice you are using Western Digital WD30 EFRX drives. At 5400 rpm these are not fast enough for PT. you need 7200 rpm drives or SSDs for your session data. I suspect this is at the heart of your problem. It also does not help if your discs are nearly full.

Dear Wizzoboy

In a topic starter message i mentioned i copy same session in 3 drives.
Internal SSD (420 Mb/s speed test) Internal Raid (120 Mb/s) and external USB 3.0 (90 Mb/s)

Result was the same

I tried to launch session from :
1) External USB Hard Drive - each edit lags for 8 sec
2) Internal RAID massive - each edit lags for 8 sec
3) Internal system SSD drive - each edit lags for 8 sec

I tried Disk Cash normal and up to 20 Gb.
In system usage Memory was 80%, and Disk Cash was green. Still the same each edit lags for 8 sec

And still PT 10 and PT 11 works super great and fast in editing in even larger session as well from external USB drive and Raid and of course SSD
