Lagging Pro Tools

In a fit of obviously stupid enthusiasm I have updated my OS to Big Sur...PT 2021.3 seem to be fine except for a 1 second lag on payback, this is making editing a heaving nightmare. Can anyone suggest a remedy, please...before I start reprogramming things with an axe.
