Will PTX work in earlier versions of Pro Tools?
Can't seem to find any info as to whether PTX files open in PT 8 & 9.
Has anyone tried this yet? Anything I have to do to ensure my PT 10 sessions open properly in earlier PT versions? |

Save As: version 7~9
I would assume that the Save Copy In can go back to version 4.3 as 5 through 9 have been able to do

Re: Will PTX work in earlier versions of Pro Tools?
Yes, "Save Copy In" and selecting "Session Format" to an earlier version should do the trick. However, I am having a problem of not being able to open .ptx PT10 files on my PTLE8 system. I have been able to open PT9 with no more difficulty than having to "Save As" if I wanted to work on or save the sessions. However, .ptx will not open with my set up. Is it possible to open a .ptx or is it incompatible with earlier versions?

No, .ptx files don't open below v10. You have to "save copy in" and then open in 9 or 8, where they are then reverted to the .ptf format

Re: Will PTX work in earlier versions of Pro Tools?
The best thing to do when wanting to continue a session Pro Tools 9 is to "File" > "Save Copy In" > All Audio Files must be selected.
Also, before you export, if you used the Clip Gain, just render the Clip Gain by right clicking on the Clip that you gained! |

Odd that a moderator would provide a slightly inaccurate reply!

Re: Will PTX work in earlier versions of Pro Tools?
Bummer. Gotta pay more now to have our engineer export our sessions for my crappy PT 8 LE machine.
Sometimes feels like I got about zero mileage out of that license. |

Re: Will PTX work in earlier versions of Pro Tools?
If you don't have Clip Gain all you should need is the session
that should be quick

Thanks Craig. I'll ask him about that.
