Dave C results
anyone build a pentium 4 based pc for protools using the Asus P4C800-E motherboard with the 875 chipset digi says its compatible, I'm just wondering what kind of dave c numbers it gets. Any P4 users care to post results and specs I'd appreciate it. I looked at the best desktops thread but I havent seen to many dave c numbers for the P4 Just AMD.

Re: Dave C results
I'm not a P4 user (and I probably never will be), but there is one post in the best desktop thread that covers that particular board:
This post seems to have some really good results for that board; 32+24 ~

Re: Dave C results
I am a P 4 user I built my system around the Intel D 875P BZLK motherboard. I am using 3.2 Ghz 478 socket processor 800 Mhz FSB 512 L2, Saffire Radeon 9200 based video card, 1 Gb Kingston Lifetime PC 3200, Lite-On DVD 2.5 DL RW, WD 80 Gb ATA 100 7200 rpm as the native drive(I also use another WD 80 Gb in a removeable rack as an additonal back up station)and 2 Seagate 7200.7 80 Gb SATA 150 drives (as record and back - up drives), runing XP Pro SP1, ProTools 6.4cs9 attached to a Digi 002. I have tweaked XP quite heavily and I have been up running since July last year.
My machine was built around the Carillon AD 4 Core ProTools approved machine from 2004. It has worked virually flawlessly since I built it, yes there were a couple hic-ups along the way but no majors problems for many months now. But as with any finely tuned instrument, it needs regular maintinance and TLC ... but I love it. I have never run the DaveC test, but I have not run out of channels or CPU power, yet. I have to add here, that I have also had to rethink my use of plugs and how one uses them ... I have improved my micing, mixing and recording techniques and really listen to what whomever is trying to accomplish rather than being amazed at the number of really cool plugs I could use to improve the sound ... in most cases it wasn't improved at all, and it made me go back to the desk and start remixing ... less can definately be more ... but enough on that ... However, having said all that, I have been reading along here for a little over two years, I got my 002 originally in December 2002, and was using a minimal computer to run it all. It was very disappointing, to say the least. I then shunned all the advice here and built a really COOL P 4 machine that wasn't completley dd approved pieces parts (the motherboard and the native hard drive I was using) ... So after that one did not work at all (Great everything else machine though), I then had to do a little more investigating and decided to go with the Carillon model (I could switch most my parts with that one) ... I would go in a much different direction now and go with the AMD 64 based machine now ... 64 bit vs 32 bit ... no brainer, at least, I feel that way ... it is one of the things that makes Macs so strong in the audio/video production areana ... BUT either way you go Allenstien (gets my vote now) or P4 make sure you use dd compatible parts, period!
