Default floppy authorizations on G4?

I presently have my Pro Tools Mix system on a g3. I plan to go to a G4 and 6.1, but I want to transfer the 5.1 stuff as well, using a dual boot G4 that will let me run 5.1 in 9.2 and 6.1 in OSX. Here's the problem: I have a number of plug-ins (Digidesign and others) that I can't or don't want to upgrade to OSX and these require floppy authorization. So how do you authorize these older plugs on a computer that doesn't have a floppy drive?

you can purchase a floppy drive for the G4
( superdrive ) but you will also have to make sure you get an Ilok and get your plug-ins setup on an ilok account before moving forward with 6.1

cheers

Yeah, I've been made aware of the ilok and 6.1 situation. I'm not 100% sure about going to 6.1 TDM. I've already got 6.1 set up for Mbox and maybe I'll just stop there. I mainly want 6.1 for ReWire and MBox/LE does it just fine. I do definitely want to set up ProTools 5.1 and all the plugs I have for that on the G4. Obviously a USB floppy drive is the only way for authorizations. My only reluctance is that I once tried to authorize Digital Performer on a laptop with no built in floppy drive and the aftermarket drive didn't work for authorization, though it worked for everything else. I even called MOTU and they were aware of the problem, but, well, tough luck. Send us a bunch of bux for a DP upgrade. Anybody with experience using a smart disk 2x usb floppy drive for authorizations?
Are we having fun yet?

Hello,

There are iLok copy protected versions of most Digi or Digi distributed plug-ins for OS 9. You can download the ilok versions at the following link:

http://www.digidesign.com/download/plugs/mixmac.cfm

For Floppies:
Just make sure you use a supported floppy drive with the correct extensions.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hello Mike,
I am also interested on moving my "floppy authorizations" to my ilok, I am currently using MacOS9.2.2 and ProTools|HD 5.3.1 but I want to move to 6.1 as soon as I get every plugin inside the ilok. How do I "move" my floppy authorizations to my ilok????

Digi plugs that I need to "move":
-Sound Replacer
-Drawmer Dynamics

Be sure to read the Digidesign iLok Information page:
http://www.digidesign.com/support/ilok
Details there regarding the procedure to have your Digidesign and Digi-distributed plug-ins updated to iLok authorizations when you upgrade to Pro Tools 6.

Information regarding floppy authorizations is on a number of pages in the compatibility documents for Pro Tools 6 on OS X, including the Optional Digidesign Plug-Ins page for each system, on the Mac OS X Requirements with Pro Tools 6.1 Systems page:
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/osx/os.cfm

and this page:
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/osx/dual.cfm
Pro Tools 6 and Migration to OS X — Dual-Boot Systems
Using Pro Tools 6 for OS X and Pro Tools 5 for OS 9 on the same computer

The iLok authorization will authorize the plug-ins on any supported operating system, OS X, OS 9, and Windows XP. You may have to update the plug-ins on OS 9 to an iLok compatible version. OS X versions are either on your Pro Tools CD, or downloadable from the web in most cases.

For floppy authorizations that are not OS X compatible, you will want to read the links above if you are installing or updating Mac OS X.

Floppy authorizations will not work at all in OS X, but you can authorize your hard drive for use in OS 9 with a compatible USB floppy drive.
The Color Kit Edition is available, and is a supported floppy drive with pace authorization floppies.

Digi support said this floppy drive was OK:
-VST Floppy Drive (model FDUSB-M only)--cheapest price $20 refurb
However, it's not presently available as a refurb or new anywhere that I've been able to find. What's available is: RF-FDUSB-TM. Is that OK too. From the smartdisk site, it appears this is only a cosmetic variation.
If you need a USP floppy drive, these are now only $15.99 refurb.

Hi Mike - Digi

I am probably a moron but I bought the VST drive kit color you guys recommend and I just can not authorize my AMP farm 1.0 and 1.5 floppy original installers.

I tried upgrading drivers and so. It says it can not read those types of disks and sometiems that the drive is not connected. So?

ALÉCIO,
According to your post in October:

Quote:
I was gifted with a copy of an older AMP FARM version, which is 1.5.

The local dealer gave me just the 2 floppy disks authorizers..
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Please forgive me if I've misunderstood the situation...
Unless I'm mistaken, from everything you have written there and over the last several months, it sounds like you have an old NFR dealer copy of Amp Farm. If that is the case, it is not a retail version that can be registered as new or by transfer of ownership (and should not be given out by the dealer under any circumstances, as stated on the NFR license agreement). Otherwise you should have been able to register it by now and get support. Unless you own a legitimate copy of Amp Farm that can be registered and upgraded, Digidesign is not able to offer you support.
