Default Behringer BCF2000, read, write, touch buttons

Hello all, I am new to the forum and would like to say it's great to be here!

I have a question, about the Behringer BCF 2000. I bought it and I have it working, even though Windows 7 made it tough on me hooking things up. Now that i have things hooked up, I have some questions about the Read, Write, Touch...all the top row buttons when you press shift. I can't seem to get them to work...is there something else required other then just pressing shift? Is anyone else using the BCF as a control surface that can shade some light on this. Any help you can give would be great! Thanks.
