As far as I know, 10.2.6 is the most recent version of OSX, and yes, it is approved. Are you privy to some secret info regarding OS 10.2.8?

Apple released the 10.2.8 update today:
Mac OS X: About the Mac OS X 10.2.8 Update

I would wait until Digidesign approves the update before installing on your Pro Tools system. Some updates work without any problems, other can break PT. Before installing any OS update, backup your system. Also, run Disk Utility->Repair Permissions after installing.

WARNING: Do not update to 10.2.8- there is a problem on some Macs that will totally disable ethernet connection. To safeguard this make a backup copy of the 10.2.6 AppleGMACEthernet.kext which resides in: System>Library>Extensions folder. You will have to log in as "root" to do this. After you have updated to 10.2.8 and you lose ethernet you can safely replace with the back-up extension and restart. Also trash the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files.

There's a report of the possible problems you may encounter at Macintouch

Another good site to check for bug reports & fixes is MacFixIt.

Also trash the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files.
That fixed a little problem that I did find with Mail. After reinstalling the downloadable combo updater.

But I have been reading of lots of people with problems, so it might be good to wait on this one.

FYI, apple just pulled it from their servers.

Although I'm trying it out now and it seems OK...
