DIGI-Should we upgrade to 5.1?
After reading posts from the last several days and weeks, we have elected to hold off on the upgrade to 5.1 It looks as though there are a lot of issues, some serious. Our current 5.0.1, 9600/300, Mezzo 3.66 etc. is very stable and everything has been working fine for a long time.
I am reluctant, as others who I have consulted with, on making this upgrade until we can get some definite stability to it. It seems as though there are a lot more problems than I ever saw with 5.0 or 5.0.1. Am I wrong? Are these problems individual problems with their system setups? I think we would all like someone to address this. Our system is in commerical use everyday and we can't afford the kinds of problems I have been reading about here. Re: DIGI-Should we upgrade to 5.1?
well, i can't believe that digi has not sent an email about the bug fixes of 5.1 to all users. first of all, i was reluctant too, but after i saw a session tracked on 5.1 with 8 double scale musicians at my studio, i was convinced. the benefits outweigh the problems. as far as i can tell, the biggest problem is that in 64 voice mode you lose dsp chips. (more than with 5.01)
i have updated my system to 9.1 as well and have noooo problems. it is more stable than with 9.0 and 5.01. the bug fixes are as follows... use the 5.1 installer and instal as normal. after completion do the following... go into the bug fixes folder on the installer cd and replace the protools app with the one in the bugfix folder (something like v5.1cs2) also take the 24 bit mixer from bugs folder and replace it (in the dae pluggins folder). if you are running midi in background there is an init that may help. i'm not using it, and my midi is ok. hope this helps. |
