Hello. Stormtrooperpez I think you will find that Digidesign will say that THIS IS the forum which you speak of. All that needs to happen is for those topics to be brought up. Do you believe that those subjects aren't brought up because others feel it would somehow interfere with other Post related ideas? In other words, let's say for the sake of argument the DUC did in fact create the forum you ask. The member base is still the same. Do you think that people that frequent the Post forum would talk about sound design issues more because of it? To put it another way, why do you suppose there are not more editing and design threads now? Do you feel like Ray Kinsella that if you build it they will come? Wouldn't that also mean they would need to focus every aspect of Pro Tools usage? Composer forum, DJ forum, Classical recording forum, Major movie editing forum, Major feature mixing forum, TV and video editing, Home studio forum, etc. Basically that's my long way of saying, if there are subjects you want to talk about, create new topics on those subjects. If other members find them interesting or worthwile, they will participate. Otherwise they won't, even if you created a new forum specifically for those subjects. That's my take on it.

I think that within these large forums, topics can quickly become diluted and forgotten. How many of us have time to to wade through all the different posts in this forum on a daily basis?

I think of ProTools as an editor first and foremost, and I know there is a very large user base for whom this is also the case. You lose your own argument against the need for a separate forum merely by examining the forums that do exist here. Obviously there is a demand for a variety of topics; who are you to say which user groups can or can't have one? If enough users support it, why shouldn't Digi create it? Post production mixing and editing are very different disciplines - why lump them together in one forum? An editing/design forum might not be as busy as a more general forum, but it will be more focused as a result.

If people want a DJ forum or any other kind of forum, nothing is stopping them from asking for it. If you build it they will come, I'm sure of that.

Default Editor/Designer Forum

Although I enjoy perusing all the DUC forums and I can say that they have helped me out of more than a few troublesome binds, I would like to propose the creation of a Sound Effects Editing & Design forum within the DUC.

I'm not sure how much support there is for this or how open Digi is to the creation of new forums, but I feel it would be very useful to have a forum strictly about ProTools as an editing and design tool. The Post and Surround forum seems to be fairly centered on mixing issues, with a few editing tangents here and there. Any editors out there who would like their own place to hang and talk shop?

There is a nice Sound Design discussion group and Game Audio Discussion group on yahoo. Daily Digests are available.

How is Yahoo in regards to protecting users from spam?

Is it a searchable database of topics?

Sorry, but with 50 junk emails daily, the last thing I want is to have yahoo sell me email to more. I was pretty much junk mail free till I bought memory for the home from a yahoo store,

Thanks!

Does anyone know of any offsite audio for post related forums that go beyond just DAWs. I find tons that are music related, but I have topics that are post specific that I'd like to ask some questions on.

I belong to both the sound design and game audio pro groups on Yahoo and haven't had any trouble with spam, although there is a lot of internal advertising as you jump between topics. Then again, I'm a little sheltered behind a giant corporate firewall...

You need a yahoo account, which by default sets you up to receive more email/spam than you thought could possibly exist. Luckily you can change these settings to nil, and all the stuff is of the non-porn variety anyway.
