Not my first rodeo.
Last rodeo Mac, DIGI 003R, RME A/D converter. The Mac Studio arrived, the AVID carbon arrived. I can get mic to show level into the Carbon, but can't get the signal to Pro Tools on the Mac Studio. I can import audio to PT and hear it, but can't get it to the headphone output of the Carbon. I can hear it on the Mac Studio Display or Mac Studio computer. Is this an M4 issue? Is there some specific installation route i need to take? Should I delete PT and reinstall? Thanks, Ty Ford |

Hi,
You need to go through the hardware menu in Pro Tools. From there, you can assign and customize the headphones’ outputs. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but apparently I'm too stupid.

Not getting any signal from audio inputs? On PT input track meters and not hearing anything? ... Have you granted macOS "Mic" permissions to Pro Tools?
What exactly have you done/tried? What exactly works/does not work? Playback of existing content OK? Recording/input monitoring of live sources? Meters move in Pro Tools but no audio? Monitors working but headphones not? Other (simple) audio apps work but Pro Tools does not? You almost certainly should not waste time uninstalling and reinstalling Pro Tools, that is one of the least likely thing to ever help, and it bugs me that Avid's awful Pro Tools troubleshooting instructions mentions it so early. |

I can input a mic on Carbon and see it on the carbon panel. This morning I was able to get it into the PT software and see it on a track input and the master fader. Still can't actually hear it.
I can drag an audio file into the timeline and see it and it shows on that track input as well as the master fader, but I still can't hear it. There are so many choices in the I/O with which I am not familiar. I'm probably overlooking something. The headphone panel is very curious. Not very explanatory. I can drop the Mac audio menu down, but if I try to select Carbon, the wheel spins but nothing connects. I can get audio to the Apple Studio Display speakers. |

Hi, I think your problem with headphones is on the headphones menu. I don’t have it in front of me right now, but you want to choose the mirror option or monitor options there. I found an image online. Please try selecting MON L-R on the menu for all headphones. The left side should be like in the picture as default. See the picture.

Thanks, Jeam25, I THINK I've tried that, but will re-try. Why are there TWO columns for the headphones?
Thanks, Darryl. Lemme try a new session. Regards, Ty |

Genius!
The new session accepted audio from my mic plugged into Carbon and sent it to Pro Tools and returned it to my headphones. I still have to lock in on what the remaining buttons on the Carbon interface actually do and why the dropdown menus on the software sometimes go on forever. Thank you very much! It'll be a while before I trust myself with this beast, but the "start with a new session" definitely got me out of the ditch. Regards, Ty Ford |

So now I will only say that the Carbon unit front panel is fairly straight forward once you get used to it. And is not as complex as it looks Basically you have the Input section on the left of the meters and Output section on the right The thing you will likely use the most (or at least I do ) is the Input rotary which controls the input level when rotated in the normal position, and switches between the 8 channels when you push it in and rotate As far as the two columns of HP'. The one on the left is when you have the Main outs feeding the 4 HP jacks on the front panel the other column on the right (I think but have not tried it ) is for if you are doing separate HP mixes using different tracks as the source (other than the main mix) Like say the Bass track at a higher level for the drummer ?
