Default Aja IO Express

Hey, all. Setting up a new fast workstation and discovered the MB is short one X4 PCIe slot I need for either my AJA or BlackMagic cards (my bad for not checking the slot requirements ahead of time). I only need this to distribute video for my occasional ADR sessions. Research shows the now discontinued (but available used) AJA IO Express worked off a card in an X1 slot. Does anybody have experience using this box for external video with Pro Tools?

The silence would imply there may be a good reason this unit was discontinued.

Hi,
I have 2 of these.
Incredibly cheap.
Has Reference in, HDSDI, HDMI ins and outs.
I am using them daily.
Rock solid at 23.98, 29.97.
If you have PCie, they are a great option.

Excellent, thank you. Just to confirm, you're using these in Windows, correct?

Ah, no problem. At least we know it isn't clearly incompatible with PT. I'll be installing one in my Windows rig later this week, so we'll see.

Hi Sean

I have an IOXT which is the thunderbolt 1 version of this (runs great on a 2019 MBP Intel i9 with adaptor).

Currently working on 10.15.7 Catalina, referenced - solid as a rock.

Because the IO Xpress is discontinued, there may be no further development of its drivers/software. Check on the AJA website.

Fo your information I am about to do a big test of how accurate different video playback systems are with Pro Tools which I will be publishing.

I also have the Aja IOXT it's a great box and works flawlessly, but I see it's now also discontinued.
Fortunately Aja seem to keep their older units drivers going for a long time after they're not sold any more. I hope that's the case with this one.
We're a bit at the mercy of the picture editing community with the constant upgrade of these video peripherals to higher and higher resolutions which are not really necessary for sound work.

Oh, I have one sitting on the shelf. I didn't know it worked with Pro Tools.
Although my one has a fan that sounds like a jet engine.
