Default Plugins on Second Screen

Been using PT for over a decade, haven't really used multiple screens much.

I prefer my mix and edit window on the same screen. I mostly use just the edit window. However, I'd like my plugins to ALWAYS open on a second smaller screen. I've tried templates, window configs, dragging and dropping. You name it. When a plugin window closes, and a new one opens, it's always on the main screen, not the second one that I want it to be on.

Anyone know how to do this, or is it not possible?

While you can’t make all plugins arbitrarily open in a particular window, you can make specific ones open and stay open in a particular place. Shift + select a plugin. Then move it where you like. It will stay there. I use it for my master buss compressor and meter. I believe this is only saved for that particular session.

miss read this post at first. I would be happy if my windows just opened where I left them next time I open sessions on my three monitors. Messing with the dock settings and not having the mix window not hit the dock at the bottom seemed to do the trick for a a whole week without even saving a window config. But now its back to its old tricks of opening everyone thing on the main monitor. I messed with the dock settings again today and now if I save a window config the windows go where I saved them in the config. But there is some kind of bug going in here. This was my earlier post.

Don't know about others, but my plugins always open in the same spot that the previous open plugin was.

Yes, it does until you hide the plugin window, then re open it. It goes back to the main screen.

RTFM and search for "target button".

OP

At the risk of stating the obvious, I solved this problem by getting a 65" 4K 120Hz TV to use as my monitor. The better Samsungs and LGs are very close to computer monitor quality.

What this gives you is essentially 4 screens to work with - but PT thinks it is only one screen, so all plugin window locations etc on the screen are retained. It takes a bit of setup, but after getting brightness and contrast set, sitting close to the monitor is fine for me. You essentially sit as you would with a normal 2K computer monitor, but the screen is huge.

One additional advantage of a large screen is that when working across the room (on drums) I can scale the monitor so that it can be easily read and controlled with a simple wireless mouse.

Only problem with TV grade monitors is there may be some additional processing going on which makes the screen laggy in computer use. Usually going through settings menu and looking for Gaming setups make it better, but still, sometimes when I'm working on a TV the lag makes me nuts.
