Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
I only tried it with midi tracks.. one more thing i noticed, when I first open a session after a fresh reboot, the tracks appear instantenously in the midi editor when clicked in the track list, but that only last for a few minutes, and the sluggish behaviour returns.

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
Yes, sure.. If I understand you correctly, I will post what I do. I have an orchestral template with 11 instances of Kontakt 4 loaded on 11 Aux tracks with LASS, Symphobia 1+2, Cinesamples, Tonehammer, etc, in addition to one instance of Omnisphere. These are bussed to groups for EQ (Waves SSL, Fab Filter Pro-Q), with sends to 3 reverb busses each having an instance of Altiverb (for near , mid, and far depth). The template has around 120 midi tracks for the various orchestra.
Total Ram consumed by Pro Tools is 3 GB, and by the overall system is 5.77 GB (Win 7 64 Pro). When I create a new session from the template, and after recording say 20 midi tracks, I open the midi editor to fix some notes, here's what I notice: 1. when I double click a midi track or group of tracks in the edit window, they open and appear immediately in the midi editor. (I have that set in the preferences)- Ok so far. 2. When I want to show an additional midi tracks in the editor, and if its a fresh session that I just started, there is no problem with tracks appearing for a short while. The lag starts when you want click to hide tracks. They don't diappear immediately. 3. From there on, the lag starts also when I want to show tracks, i.e. between when I click them in the track list to when they actualy show up in the editor. 4. I tried closing the session and re-open. The first time I did that, the lag was gone for a short while (as decribed above), then it started. The second time I closed and re-opened the session, the lag was there from the start. Thats basically the lag problem I am facing.

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
You've maxed your system. I'd strongly suggest purchasing Vienna Ensemble Pro this will take the load off Pro Tools.

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
Hi Filosfem, are you involved with Avid? cause that's the first thing they advise to solve everything... purchase this, purchase that...? I don't want to be offending, but this kind of problems happens on any kind of system I've worked on (Mac/pc/new/old...). There's just too many people (inluding me, read the duc for others) who have bought tons of other hardware and software to solve problems without any result, while the main problem was inside pt's code.

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
I too am frustrated with the performance Pro Tools currently offers. Is jumping up and down about it going to solve this issue today? No! Avid are aware of the poor MIDI performance. Are Avid doing something about this issue? Yes! But it will not be delivered today. So, you need to find an interim solution. If VE Pro is too expensive use a ReWire Client.

Quote:
My total Ram is 24 GB, of which Pro Tools is using 3 Gb and Win7 is using 2.7 Gb. I still have around 16 GB Ram free. So I cannot understand how I maxed my system? Yes, I have already ordered VE PRo, waiting shipment delivery. Avid too slow to change Pro Tools to 64 bit and I'm tired of waiting. but I am stuck because I have no time to learn a new software (even though Reaper is very attractive).

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
Right now, PT is a 32 bit application and can't make use of all that ram. Getting PT to use 3 GB is pretty good.
Filosofem is recommending that you get an appplication that will run outside of PT (but at the same time as PT) thus allowing access to more ram. Hope this helps, Greg

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
I understand that PT 32 bit can only use 3 GB, but if the computer CPU usage is still low, and there is a lot of RAm still available, why I am experiencing this lag or delay in the midi editor?
In any case, i will try out VE Pro when it arrives, and see of this makes a difference. thanks for your help

Re: Time Delay between Clicking Track List and appearing in midi Editor
Hi Jeanpaul, generally once a 32-bit applications reaches it's 4GB ceiling, the applications response time slows and there is no exception with Pro Tools. This behaviour is most evident with Virtual Instruments and in Pro Tools case, VST and VSTi's. To reduce the resources from Pro Tools, hosting VST and VSTi and even RTAS with VE Pro, thus taking full advantage of all the system allocated RAM, enables Pro Tools to function as intended.
