How do you type a dam K in the comments?
How do you type a dam capital K in the comments box without bringing up the dam MIDI Keyboard window?

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
capital ‘K’
(Windows), left-click in comments box: Caps Lock key ON MIDI Keyboard = left-click anywhere in Session, then (Shift + K)

Just turn off Keyboard Focus?
Mind you, I never have it switched on! Stephen

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
Unless I'm misunderstanding the question, if your cursor is in the track comments box then you should be able to type anything you want without triggering Keyboard Focus commands - certainly I can here, and can on any system I've ever worked on. if this isn't the case, then something else is wrong in your system.

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
I can confirm this issue on my system as well. It appeared when the on-screen keyboard feature was released, and has been there since. (Sorry for not reporting this sooner, but have not been using PT too much lately.) I'm on 2021.6 + Win 10 2020H2 (have not bothered to update to 2021.7, so not sure if it's been fixed there, but it appears OP is on 2021.7, so likely not). I have tried with/without keyboard focus, but this makes no difference. I posted a while back about a very similar issue - Shift-C did not produce a "C" in the comment box. This, I believe, happened at the same time Avid introduced the retrospective MIDI capture command, which I think was triggered with the Shift-C shortcut. My theory then, as it is now, is that they forgot to suppress the event listener for Shift-[C/K] when the comment box is active. The issue was fixed shortly thereafter.
Apart from this minor issue I should mention that PT is rock solid on my system. Thanks, by the way to unkJE for great workaround - mine was to keep a "K" nearby in Notepad++ and copy/paste it into the comment box whenever I needed to type "Kick" or "Kontakt". |

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
Ok bad joke guess I'll keep my day job .
So is this on just your windows machine ? or both Mac and PC ? Because on my Mac system on 2021.6 I just click on the comments box and hold Shift and type K and it just puts a capital K in the comments box, and no other window opens.. Same if keyboard focus is on or off

I’ve changed my original Post’s suggestion “Caps Lock key on, then (Alt + K)” as I should have written “For capital K, just turn Caps Lock ON” With keyboard focus OFF, hold Shift and type K opens the MIDI Keyboard With keyboard focus ON, just clicking in the comments box turns the keyboard focus OFF, so hold Shift and type K also opens the MIDI Keyboard Holding SHIFT makes a Capital of any letter, except K ‘SHIFT + K’ opens the MIDI Keyboard

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
Remind me how to turn keyboard focus off again?
I can't believe that I didn't think about using caps lock. Caps lock isn't something I normally use in my regular computing so it just never even crossed my mind. Trying to input mic types in the comments box when I've got a bunch of KM184s, Scheops MKs and Sennheiser KMH800s on a session was super annoying.

Re: How do you type a dam K in the comments?
I normally click the yellow ‘az’ button to turn off keyboard focus, but, thanks to your Thread, found that clicking in the comments box is another way to turn it off … (got no idea whether this is intentional or a bug) ...
anyway, glad Windows can use “Caps Lock” for K in the comments box – seems this is not an issue for Macs, where (Shift + K) does the job (Just when I feel I'm "starting to get the hang of things" - Pro Tools teaches me how little I know, and, just to rub it in, on a daily basis!)
