Default Looking for how to host VSTi inside Pro Tools 12

Hello, I recently switched my Pro Tools from version 11 to 12 for many reasons, after wondering which to take for years. PT 12.8.1 works well on Mac OS Sierra/MacPro except for the plug-ins. I have quite a bit of VSTi and now am looking seriously for a rewiring tool to host VSTi inside PT 12. What I have learnt till today by reading the forum posts is that Reaper, Blue Cat Patchwork, and DDM's Metasynth seem to work. Can anybody tell me the best, simplest and cheapest tool? What I want to do is just make VST workable in ProTools 12. I prefer doing the rest of the work on PT12.

Thank you in advance,

Waiting for your advice!

Pro Tools 11 to 12.? How were you hosting VSTi in Pro Tools 11? And why does that not work in Pro Tools 12?

Blue Cat Patchwork is probably what most folks will use.... but it only hosts 64bit plugins on Pro Tools (11 or 12). Are your plugins all 64 bit?

Thank you for your quick reply! Most of my plug-ins is 64 bit, I guess. I used Reaper to rewire to PT11, but I did not like it very much. Sometimes unstable. Does Reaper work well as a rewiring tool inside Pro Tools 12?

Not sure what specifically you don't like in ReWire/Reaper but that should work the same in 12.

Just grab a demo of Patchwork and try it. I hardly used it (AAX does the little I need), but it is less heavy than running Reaper.

Hi, having tried many of the others I finally settled on Vienna Ensemble Pro 5/6 for hosting, the thing I like most is that it can host BOTH 32 bit and 64 bit plugs with minimal cpu load on the host as it runs as a seperate "server" and routes back into PT as a plug in.

Not as cheap as some of the others, but rock solid, I've had no issues with it in well over 4 years, it just works!

Thank you for your advice. I run a very small private studio and do everything not on business base. Today I tried several ways to host VST plug-ins, and found out that it is much easier and cheaper to do with Logic Pro X. I will keep remembering the name of Vienna Ensemble Pro 5/6, in case I encounter more demanding tasks. Thank you for your opinion.

Logic Pro is NOT cheaper than Blue Cat Patchwork.

What I'm surprised no one has asked is: don't your plugins have aax 64 support? That's what you'd need to run inside PT11 and PT12. It's the rare plugin that doesn't have aax64. Much easier than using Patchwork.

I use blue cat patchwork as well with no problems. If you also need to run 32bit plugs then buy a copy of 32Lives.
