Default FYI

With the acquisition of Steinberg, YAMAHA plans to further promote the Studio Connection initiative and realize seamless technical integration of hardware, such as synthesizers and digital mixers, and software. Another goal of the acquisition is to expand the market by making it easier for both general users and professionals alike to create music in a broad variety of genres.

Avid better do some more acquiring and merging or Yammy will stomp on them... and then of course there is SONY who has been drawing attention with their suite of music software.

Yamaha is referring to mLAN.
The response to mLAN has been slow so the plan is to integrate it into the Steinberg programs and 2 new editors they are coming out with.
They claim it will allow you to be able to do things like save the settings of a piece of mLAN equiped gear into your session for automatic recall.
They are boasting that it will make hardware more like a plug-in.
They will try to use their line of hardware and new software projects to show other vendors that they should join in.
It was pretty much the driving force behind aquiring a cross-platform software company so they could build for WIN and Apple.
Time will tell if the technology works and if other want to use it.
