Default Re: Yamaha DM1000 and Pro Tools

All right, this mystery is solved. I wasn't hearing things, but the reason had nothing to do with the USB interface to the RME Digiface.

So... My analog inputs are mapped to 1 thru 16. The ADAT in's are mapped to inputs 17 thru 32.

So I'm going thru the different screens looking for something wrong. I stopped at the pan/surround screen and stared at it. Everything was correct... on the analog inputs. But 17 thru 32 were still in their default settings: centered.

As soon as it set the pans correctly the separation and "life" came back to the mix.

Aggravating yes, but a simple fix so I'll take it.

Default Re: Yamaha DM1000 and Pro Tools

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I apologize in advance if I'm posting it in the wrong place or asking the same question again.

I've got my hands on a Yamaha DM1000 and have been trying to put it to work with Pro Tools 12, but I'm hopeless, starting to believe I've made a wrong choice re the desk.

The DM1000 doesn't have any cards in both slots, so I'm considering which one would work best, Dante, ADAT, AES/EBU for what I'm trying to achieve.

So far I've managed to get 8 faders working in Pro Tools using remote 1. The question is: can I have all 48 channels working in Pro Tools with HUI or 32 at least? I guess that using remote 1 I should be able to use up to 16 channels (but only 8 channels working so far) then, flipping to remote 2 I'd get access to the other 16 channels (17 - 32). I had a good read to the manual, but I couldn't get the answer on how to put it to work. Yamaha says to install OMS, but it only works until OS 9?? Would that be the bridge I'm missing to make the DM talk to Pro Tools?

I've done the HUI config in Peripherals already, allowing 8 channels for each of the 4 tabs available.

I'd love to also be able to get up to 32 physical channels IN using an audio interface like MOTU, Presonus, or something like that, so any info in this regard would be great too.

I'm using a MBP touchbar with macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and Pro Tools 12 version 20.9.1.123

I hope that makes sense, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

How are you expecting a DM1000 and Pro Tools to work together?

Hi Jimmy,

I'm aiming to use the DM1000 for tracking in Pro Tools. I know the DM1K doesn't work as an audio interface like the 01v96, but using a Dante, AES/EBU or ADAT card with an audio interface could potentially provide the I/O I'm looking for?

Having an audio inteface with up to 48 or at least 32 physical I/O for tracking would be perfect, but I'm not quite sure if it's possible.

I hope it makes sense.

Apologies as english is not my first language.

Cheers

I see a lot of money being spent for not much bang for the buck. For Dante, I can easily see spending upwards of $2000 just to get 16x16 I/O at 44.1/48. Since Pro Tools mixes, the only real benefit of having a redundant hardware mixer is if you need to assemble and access multiple monitor mixes quickly for studio musicians. Beyond that, its size, weight and cost seem prohibitive just to get 16 used preamps and HUI control surface.
