I wanted to see if anyone has a solution for a very tedious/annoying problem I have.
A client has brought in several piano albums using MIDI piano. His sustain pedal never fully lifted up, but the sustain down registers at 127 on "sustain (64)" controller lane. I need to get the sustain pedal all of the way up (0) and maintain the Sustain Down at 127. This is like an hours worth of material, so going to each sustain pedal one by one and adjusting it is incredibly annoying. You would think there would be a way to select all of the nodes at the bottom of the controller lane in one lasso selection. But you can't (at least I have been unable to find any way to do this). I even exported the MIDI over to logic to try to make these edits and Logic has the same issue. As you go to lasso all of the controller data points at the bottom, it still selects all of the Sustain Down nodes at the same time. I'd love it if anyone has a great suggestion for me. For now, I have copied a pedal and then tried to tab to each pedal note to paste. However, there is a bug in trying to do this. After you paste and press tab, the selection/cursor is stuck and will not move onto the next point. So I am having to click before each sustain pedal, tab, then paste and repeat through thousands of pedals. ---------- As Requested below, this is a video describing the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCl4xbVwrJU

If what I'm reading is that you want to delete all of the Sustain CC events of a certain value (0 or 127), you *might* be able to use the MIDI Event List, choose your track, use the View Filter (right-side drop-down menu) to view only the sustain events, and control-click the ones you want to remove, and press the Delete key to delete them. Unfortunately, if you're trying to choose those events and transform or move them somehow, I'm not sure how to do that. If you're trying to add Sustain CC events at value 0, I'm afraid there's no great way to do that - just click-pencil them in the CC lane, or re-record the Sustain CC performance manually with a sustain pedal.

Here is a video that describes what I'm trying to do.
I think we need another tool in Pro Tools that can do this as well as lasso automation points on an audio automation lane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCl4xbVwrJU

Ooof. Yeah. That looks like a rough one. I don't think you can change the sensitivity of the Kontakt Instruments to ignore CC64 events in a given range. FWIW, It looks like you can do that in Cubase.

1) Select the section of sustain data you want to edit
2) Choose "Trim" tool 3) Hold down Option-Shift as you click and drag downward on the data 4) Send me a Starbucks gift card. :) |

That seems to work (for me). Just make the CC lane as tall as possible so you have more room to adjust, and try to drag down slowly so you don't bottom out the "On/Down" points. With Kontakt instruments, it seems like anywhere above a value of 64 will give you the "On" message

What does holding Option+Shift while Click+Dragging with the Trimmer Tool do? It seems to behave exactly the same as when NOT holding Option+Shift while Click+Dragging with the Trimmer Tool.

How in the world did you know that would work? What is the Option-Shift Dragging with the trimmer tool doing that makes that work? Thank you! I also just realized it can work with the smart tool if you just hold down shift when you trim. Option-Shift doesn't work with the smart tool.

Wow, I'm pretty amazed by this as well! A slight correction though to alzakent/Dizzi45Z!
With the Trimmer Tool or the Smart Tool, it is only necessary to hold Shift to access this functionality! Adding the Option key does NOT make a difference with the Trimmer Tool. Where did you learn this and where is it documented, alzakent? Even better for Dizzi45Z!: 1. Zoom out (no need to make an edit selection) 2. Switch to the Trimmer to Smart Tool 3. Hold Shift and Drag Down That should "fix" the entire session in one fluid motion!

Realized I forgot about this thread and don't get alerted to thread updates!
This "feature" isn't documented anywhere that I know of. When I'm troubleshooting, looking for functionality I wish were there, I tend to try modifier keys like Shift or Option or a combo to see what other functionality might be embedded in the code. Thanks for the correction, Skylar. |
