I just purchased the PowerSpec G900 computer from Microcenter. It has the AMD Ryzen 5900. I added (2) 2 TB SSD drives for music file and VI libraries. It runs amazingly well and show extremely low CPU usage when using some power hungry VIs. Microcenter builds these in-house so they do not come bloated with extra software.

I have never had the need to raise the buffer above 32...
That sounds like a dream. I am currently using the UFX+ and want to take advantage of RME drivers to the fullest and run my sessions at 32 buffer as well. Currently, with my i7 I don't even get close to that. I am pricing out a 5950x build right now and it is encouraging to hear that folks are having success with Pro Tools.

I have heard a few people on the internet (and we ALL know the internet is pure fact!) say that Pro Tools and AMD are not compatible, or at least that AMD is nowhere as stable as Intel (with PT). Seems that this is untrue, yes?

Using a Ryzen 5 2600 here, without issue. I have found that changing the processor affinity helped with a few pops I was getting, but I had been getting them on my old dual Xeon too.

Created a batch to launch Pro Tools and set affinity and priority, as well as close unused programs. If anyone is interested I could post the body of it.

Hi Joel,
I would interested in your batch file and adapt it to my cpu if that is possible !

Currently back on PT after a hiatus, and my CPU is now a 5950x which is great ! But I am currently experimenting with processor affinity and finding some interesting results, but it's still too early to confirm.

Maybe this can be a thread to share our findings ?

Cheers

Hmm, I can't paste the body of the batch in my reply.

Here's a Google Drive link a document with it in it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

Just to state the obvious - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. There's nothing in it that would do any damage, but just putting it out there :)

Hope it is useful to someone,
Joel

Thanks for the link, Joel! I am about to pull the trigger on a 5950X build and have added this to my list of setup resources.

I will do my best to update you here on how the processor affinity settings affect PT.

Cheers
