Default PTLE8 Crashes with G5 and OS 10.5.5

PTLE8 will hang then quit either while I'm recording or just playing back a session. I use less than 8 tracks with no plugins. I have a G5 with 6 gig RAM using OSX 10.5.5 My buffer is set to 512.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
D.

what kind of G5 are you running? I'm on a "late 2004" dual 2.0 PPC G5, with 5.5 gigs of RAM, on OS 10.5.5, and I'm running smooth as can be at the moment. Mind you, I only use my system for mixing, so I've got the latency set at its max value, so that might be part of what's helping. What's your audio interface? Have you tried (a touch drastic, I know) a fresh install of both your OS and your copy of Pro Tools? Trashed preferences lately?

gosh, troubleshooting is fun.

I'm running a 2.5 Ghz PowerMac G5 and a Digi002, not sure when it was built. But I recently did a clean install of OSX 10.5.5 and PTLE 8 by reformatting the drive and building the system from scratch.

I'm running a 2.3 dual G5 PPC with 3 gigs, 002R and I've opened sessions with up to 23 tracks, re-mixed, recorded tracks, played with all the new plug-ins, with no problems (and I was very nervous about upgrading due to past nightmares)- it's been very stable (knock on wood)

and I just installed from disk over 7.4 (having cloned my system to another drive I figured starting over would be easy if it didn't work)

Did you install any 3rd party plug-ins? What kind of drive are you using for recording/playback? Have you done all the optimizations from the General Troubleshooting thread? Do you have any other peripherals attached?

And so on...basically, we need more info...

No plugins other than what comes with PTLE8. I don't have any demos installed either.

The last thing I tried - I swapped out the firewire cable and now it works! Go figure. I've been using that cable all along and never touched it. Hhhmmm . . . Thanks for all the suggestions folks!
