Default Original Mbox and crossgrade Pro Tools 9

Anyone knows if the crossgrade for Pro Tools 9 works for the Mbox1?

no, it's not eligible for the crossgrade. it was EOL'd a while back, so why would it come back from the dead?

Maybe because I paid 600 bucks for it only 5 years ago (2005), and that was for software + hardware.
To top it off I kept paying for software updates since,
so it would be normal to have a crossgrade for the software part.
(and also to compensate the fact that the hardware is useless since dropped)
Apple does it, $299 even for antic versions of logic, get you logic studio 9.
But apparently Avid is not Apple.
What would you think if you buy a $600 guitar and five years after it stops playing ...
In 2006 I actually bought a nice Martin D15 for that exact amount and if it stops playing next year, I'm not going to be happy...
The most hilarious is that Avid treats better Motu/Echo/Focusrite/RME customers that its own customers:
they allow a guy who owns a 10 years-old MOTU box to use it with PT9 but not a guy who owns a 5 years-old avid interface and has paid off for updates.

Technically, the announcement FAQ says the crossgrade is good for any LE owner without specifying a PT version. That would lead me to believe that you can crossgrade. The problem though is that the MBox1 has not been put back into the Avid stable for support in Pro Tools, so you would have to rely on the ASIO drivers. The question is, "How good are the ASIO drivers for the MBox1?"

Well I hope you're right but I can't find any official confirmation, and I've seen lots of people posting that there's no crossgrade for Mbox1.
To be honest even if I could not use that Mbox with PT9, the crossgrade would allow me at least to do some editing on my laptop without interface, and continue to use Pro Tools by adding $250, to the $825 I have invested already within 5 years (600 for the box and ProTools6, 75 for ProTools7 and 150 for ProTools8) or use it with another interface that I own..

Interesting point Nick and I'd contact Avid Audio Support.

For what it's worth, I just went part-way through the crossgrade process at the Avid store. Up until the point of adding payment information, there was no requirement of a previous install authorization number.

So did I, and I'm not going to get my CC billed to find out a couple of minutes later that my hardware serial don't qualify for the download.

From my understanding the cross grade is based on the software alone. So ver 8.0.0 on an mbox 1 should not matter any more than 8.0.4 on a mbox 2.

How is it that you are using Protools 8 on an original MBox? I thought that Digi ended PTLE support for the MBox in version 7.4?
