i have read all of the initial suggested reading and have still found nothing to help. the windows 7 optimizations did not seem to do anything either.
ive been workin on this for over a week before coming to this board to ask my question. i wanted to make sure i wasnt doing something stupid before i came to the experts.

ive been making music for quite sometime, with hard disk recorders form early 90s, but recently decided to upgrade when i got to use pt in a studio.

so here is my problem:

im getting a multitude of blue screen of death errors. bad pool header, system service exception, memory management, and drive irql not less or equal. i dont see the pattern nor have i found similar fixes.
usually these happen after i get pro tools 8 installed, and attempt to run...... sometimes before i can get the validation code typed in.

everything on my computer seems to be running correctly, based on what ive written in this thread, is there any advice you may offer?

yours truly frustrated,
Charles

well those errors can be several things. But usually related to drivers or bad ram.

Step 1: check your ram.

Go to Control Panel.

Administrative Tools.

Double Click Windows Memory Diagnostic.

Restart now and check....ect...

Let is scan..

Go get coffee.

Come back and see what it says.

If no errors, then post back. If errors. Start taking out ram and test each stick to narrow it down to the bad one.

Are you sure ALL of your plug-ins are the latest versions and optimized for PT8?

8.04 is WAY more strict about plug in versions than anything i've seen in a while. I don't pretend to know why maybe Shan can chime in but I do know that systems that seemed to be fairly stable and that were usable before are not after the update.

Recheck your plugs.
recheck your plugs
recheck your plugs
needless to say dont try to run any bootleg plugs LOL

Happy hunting
also check the cas latency of your ram in the bios this version of PT seems to push XP a bit beyond 8.03 and bring out the worst in systems.

Well, your My book is only an 8mb cache. though that shouldent yield a blue screen. What exception is listed at the top of the blue screen?

I'm not gonna use the usb drive, just the two internal sata.

The errors are different everytime, but that's all of them.

Now you need to check the drivers. try changing the drivers for the firewire port you are using.

Device Manager.

Find your IEEE 1394 Host Controller.

Right Click on the correct Firewire device.

Update Driver.

Browse My Computer.

Let Me Pick.....

And try each of the differant entries.
