Angry Windows 7, Pro Tools LE 8.0 and Original MBox. Is it possible?

Is it possible to run Pro Tools LE 8.0 on a Windows 7 laptop with the original Mbox?

I have Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 running fine on my desktop PC. It has WinXP connected to 002. I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed and tried to connect my old Mbox but cant find the drivers USB for it. When i launch Pro Tools, it doesn't detect any digi hardware even though the mbox is connected. Ironically the mbox loads the drivers fine when I connect to my desktop machine running XP. Is there a way download the USB drivers for the original Mbox? If I manually try to install the drivers for my Mbox, the only drivers i find is for MBox 2.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

So it should work. I have Pro Tools LE 8.0 installed on my laptop but for some reason i cant find the drivers for the mbox. Is it because Windows 7 is installed?

I am "running" PT 8.0.1 with an Mbox on a desktop with W7 64 bit, after significant fixes and troubleshooting....so it is possible. But not fun to get working.

And I say "running" as certain plugins will cause the HW buffer errors to go crazy.

No problems getting the drivers up for it ok though.

The original Mbox is EOSS as of Pro Tools 8.0.1. The Mbox will not work with Windows 7.

You MIGHT get it to work with Pro Tools 8 software($149) and the 8.0.1cs1 updates(which are the last to work with the old Mbox). Instead of paying $149 for the software(your old version will not work), you might sell the old Mbox and buy a newer Mini or Mbox 2(which will include the newer software and allow for using the latest and future updates). Keep in mind that 8.0.3 is having issues for many(but I don't know if its related to Windows7 or XP). Read over some of the threads related to that for more info.

Albee has the best answer, but, just FYI, your laptop is not necessarliy going to be able to run Pro Tools. For one thing, the Windows 7 driver is PUBLIC BETA and for another, you only have one hard drive and Pro Tools requires a physically separate hard drive to record sessions to. Internal is best, then externally eSATA and, with the proper firewire card in the computer and the right chipset in the enclosure, firewire. USB external drives are not recommended or supported.

Have a look at the Help Us Help You and General Troubleshooting threads in the stickies and post a Sandra Report so others can have a look at your laptop's hardware and offer suggestions.

Cheers,
