Default Merging Custom Map Data into Older Sessions

[MERGING CUSTOM MAPS]

Let's take a closer look at how to take the custom Knob and Fader Maps you've created in newer sessions or templates and merge those into older sessions which were built before the new mapping functionality existed.

We'll also take a look at a few creative ways to structure maps and leverage the Y-axis of the Joystick module for high resolution control of effects sends.

First, Open the session you've been working on which contains all of your current Custom Maps. Under Settings > System > Auto-Load From Titles And Sessions - untick Clear Custom Knob Maps When Session Data Clears. Now, open one of your previous sessions which obviously wouldn't contain the new maps you've recently created. Once open, simply perform a Save or Save As on your session and the Custom Maps have now also been associated with this session.

Let's take a closer look at working with Memory Locations on S4 • S6 - including Markers, Selections, Track Views and Window Configs. There are 3 basic ways to access Memory Locations via the Soft Keys:

(1) Press the Mem Loc switch from the numeric section on the Automation Module. This uses a single quadrant to show Memory Locations in chunks of 10 spanning 10 pages.

(2) Hold Shift while pressing the Mem Loc switch to access 48 vertically oriented locates, then page to access locates 49 - 96.

(3) Hold Shift while pressing the - switch on the numeric section to get a combination of Memory Locates and Automation functions. 24 vertically oriented locates are on the Left with Auto1 and Auto2 defaulting to the right side.

When you combine the track show hide marker workflow with macros calling up layouts, you get this really fast switching workflow I have been using sense PT9.

Hi Jeff, thank you for the great ongoing tips and help.

How do I bring your .xml custom maps into one of my sessions? (S6, PT 2021.7)

Greetings,

Glad you are enjoying the tips. Here's a few different ways you can leverage the maps.

(1) Simply open the following session - which is a getting started Dolby Atmos for Music session I am working on ->
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fboka47ci8...Start.zip?dl=0

The session file includes with it maps for Cinematic Rooms, Stratus 3D, ProSubharmonic, Slapper and others - so you can experiment with them.

OR

(2) Copy all of the XML files in that Custom_Maps folder to a jump drive -> connect to your Master Module then copy to the following directory:
C:\Users\S6User\AppData\Roaming\Avid\Consoles\Knob Maps\

Custom Maps Repository:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/16odjiyti...4269Jaina?dl=0

Using the method outlined in the last TOD video, once you've opened the session for example, you can move the maps into any new or legacy sessions.

best,

Jeff

Hi Jeff. Is there a quick way to remove custom fader maps from a session? Just for fun, I added most of your custom maps at the above link into the "KnobMaps" folder. There are several I'd rather not work with, so I logged back in as Admin and manually deleted them. But they also saved to the session I'm working in.

I'm guessing I can do the same procedure, but select "do not load maps from session" to get back to where I was. But I'm hoping there is a way to do it from inside the User account that is faster than logging out?

You can certainly opt to untick "Auto-Load custom Knob and Fader Maps From Sessions", however that doesn't purge the maps that were created from the Pro Tools session.

You can attention a given track and target the appropriate plug-in (like Cinematic Rooms Pro) and then choose Custom > Factory All to kill all maps for that plug-in. Save the session and you've purged it from memory.

Hey Jeff.

Thanks for posting these maps. Quick questions. Will these maps apply to the S1+Dock as well or only S6?

Thanks

The XML files are interchangeable and can be used with EuControl - for example if you map the encoders which are adjacent to the Master Module - these could be used with the Dock encoders in EuControl. There are a few included, however most of the example maps that I discussed in the tips were specific to 4x8 for Knob Modules and Fader Maps for Fader or Channelstrip modules.

best,

Jeff
