Default PT 10 HD with non HD hardware?

Hi there,

My studio's out of commission due to the hurricane, and a client is requesting an urgent revision. So I need to figure out a way to open up a PT 10 HD session asap. I'm wondering, if I install my PT 10 HD software onto my laptop, will I be able to use it (without TDM plugs) with my Mbox 2 Mini? Can you chose to use a non-HD playback engine?

Also, does anyone know if a session created in PT 10 can be opened in PT 8 if you didn't do the special "save as older version" step?

Thanks so much!

You can install the software and it will open as PT10.
You cannot open the PT10 session in an older version.

Hope this helps

This is plain wrong.
PT 10 HD will run fully featured (apart from TDM obviously) without HD hardware, if you got the iLok with the HD license.

Yes - it'll run just like PT10 with the Complete Production Toolkit

You don't need the MBox either. 'Can monitor from the crappy phone jack if you want...

yup, you can do that easy.. i was just talking about that on the other thread...

i can boot HD 10 with either my HD Omni via Native, or use 11R as my interface..

you just gotta go over the i/o settings and such as they will all be setup for whatever unit it normally runs through... this can be a pain, its not an exact science when you switch back n' forth like I do so I exported the HD OMNI settings, loaded up again with 11R and configured my i/o's and all that jazz then exported those settings as well..

now i can switch on the fly just by importing the proper defaults...

takes a little messin' around at first... but it should work well

actually, i like the way its all the same install, and its your ilok key which dictates what features are available to you..

Exactly. The 10 HD license on the ilok opens 10 HD software on ANY system, Native, MBox, other hardware, etc. Absolutely no difference on your TDM cards or not, except obviously the ability to use TDM plugs.

If you read 8thnotes post you will see that he is saying what you are saying. He's not wrong, he's actually correct.

I read his post, and he is wrong, since it's not opening as PT10, but as PT10 HD, which makes a big difference.
