Default Problem with Speaker Configuration in Audio Midi Setup

I'm hoping someone can help here, as I've seemingly tried everything.

In Audio Midi Setup, I'm trying to change my speaker output configuration. (I'm using HD Native w AVID i/o interfaces, and would like the audio to come out of outputs 25&26 instead of the default 1&2)

When I press the test buttons, I can hear white noise, BUT no core-audio will come out of the speakers. No iTunes, no Quicktime… they continue to come out of 1&2… Furthermore, when I quit Audio Midi Setup, my speaker configuration does NOT save, and instead defaults to outputs 1&2.

I've seen others online with this problem, but no solutions.

Anybody?

Thanks!
