Pro Tools LE 8 freezes multiple times on startup

Hi Everyone,

I have an issue with Pro Tools on a new laptop and I hoping someone can help. When I start Pro Tools LE 8.0.3cs (also tried LE 8.0.5) on my Lenovo X201 it freezes at various points multiple times, taking upwards of fifteen minutes to possibly get to the screen where you can choose Create, Open, etc. And then when selecting one of the options it freezes at various points once again. I have not yet successfully opened a session. I used to have a Lenovo T61 and Pro Tools LE worked fine on it (with Windows XP and Windows 7). I figured this new laptop would be even better but I can't even get it going! Please help. The specs are below.. Thank You!

Lenovo X201 laptop
Windows XP SP3
Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 (currently) with most up-to-date drivers
Intel Core i5 processor
2.53GHz, 1.86 GB of RAM

I bet your T1 had the optional graphics card? When I see 1.8GB of RAM, I know that some RAM has been "stolen" for on-board graphics, which can be a show stopper for PT. You should try generic VGA drivers or updating drivers and see if that helps. Is this new laptop a known compatible rig, or did you assume that since the old one worked, then the new one would?

Hi, I just assumed.. Not a good thing I'm assuming.. haha. I attempted to update the drivers via rick-click Desktop -> properties -> advanced -> adapter tab -> properties -> driver tab -> update driver but the Windows Hardware Update Wizard said it couldn't find a better match for my hardware than the software that was already installed. How would I go about getting the VGA drivers? Are there any other solutions? Thanks for all your help.

Unfortunately, using standard VGA drivers did not work either. Pro tools is still very slow (upwards of 10-15 minutes to load) and freezes in multiple spots. Also, I cannot get a file to open because of this issue. Any other ideas as to what it may be (anyone??)? Or is the 1.86 GB just not enough?
