Default I need to export a midi file

I just finished a session where I imported midi tracks, edited them, and burnt a CD of the final wav tracks. This person also wanted the final midi tracks so I selected the track and hit Alt + Sift + 3 to create a new midi file of the whole track. Then, I went to the midi files and selected the midi track in question, and went to hit "export midi file" from the midi files menu, only no such option exists. I looked all over for where these midi files are stored but I cannot find them. Anyone know where PT keeps the midi files or how to export a midi file?

Thanks, Paul

So that's where they hid that function. I successfully exported 3 of 4 midi files. One session will not allow me to choost export midi file. It's currently grey, any idea how to make it black

Thanks for your help Rail, please pardon my down syndrome.

if its gray, it's because it's outed to no midi instrument, look at the output of that channel, it shuold not afect midi export.
or ask rail he should give his ussual two word answer.

The menu option will be grayed out if there's no MIDI data to export.. if you want to export a tempo map or Markers.. create at least one MIDI track.

That's where the problem lies. There is a midi track. 1 midi track which I tried highlighting, alt shift 3ing, unhighlighting, & so on. there was just no way into tricking the words 'export midi file' into turning black on this one particular session, and I can't find anything that would make it any different from the other 3. Weird huh?

Hey Yoko, the notes on the track are not grey, it's the words 'export midi file' which are greyed out. Thanks for trying though.

If all the MIDI tracks are muted - the option will also be grayed out. Only unmuted MIDI tracks will be exported (page 126 of the 6.7 Reference Guide).
