Default How to determine RMS and PEAK in PT ?

I was wondering, how can I see dBFS peaks on individual channel strip meters of ProTools ? I can just see meter jumping up and down but I can't see any displayed levels of my audio and MIDI (aside from fader position level).
Is there any way to make that happen ? And if no, how do you guys determine what are yours RMS and Peak levels at any given track ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

If you mean you want to see numbers then go up to view and makes sure "narrow mix" is unchecked. Or hit option + apple + M

Command-click on the volume indicator display to toggle between volume, peak and delay.

You can also go into Preferences under Display and change peak hold to infinite.

If you want to see RMS you may insert the Phase Scope Plug-in from Avid Digirack suite.

But then what kind of volume the Protools meter shows? Not RMS?

And, another question, what's the measured value of the LEQ (A) in phasescope? RMS?

I'm lost :S

Thank you so much, I've been searching for this for a long time.

So, if I want to check for RMs volume on a track, I can use the Phasescope plugin with the meter set to RMS, right? But then, even if RMS is supposed to be an average volume, the meter in the phasescope can vary about 5db up and down on a constant dynamic part of a track. What value should I consider as the "RMS value" of a constant part of a track: the top one or the low one? Or the middle one?

My main concern is I want to record sources around -18dbfs RMS to leave headroom for the plugin process. And I'd like a good way to measure this with precision.

Thanks again, you're really helping me.

free...

not real time, but great for checking pre-and-post mastering.

the most configurable tool out there is spectra foo.

another really good one is the metering section from slate's fgx.
those will do what you're asking.
