Trying to go Native but stuck on issue
I am trying to make the move from PT8.4 LE over to HD Native. Here's my problem: I have the Apogee AD16X and DA16X converters. I have the X-HD cards which would allow me to buy a PT PCIE Core Card and go TDM HD without any other hardware. However, the TDM Core Cards are too expensive. Besides, I have a feeling they are on the way out now that native is here. The Apogee X-HD cards apparantly don't work with Native HD though? What should I do? Is there another converter that works with the Native card flawlessly? The Apogees were a hug investment! I don't want to just sell them to but Digi's hardware.Should I wait and see if Apogee updates their firmware? Somehow I don't think they will because they only support Mac now and I am on PC. What is the answer? Should I just wait a while and see what happens? Sell the Apogees? Buy a used PCIE TDM Core card on Ebay for $3000?

Re: Trying to go Native but stuck on issue
As far as I know, the X-HD cards should work fine with HD Native. They didn't change anything in that regard from regular HD. Whatever worked with regular HD should work with HD Native.
I've mentioned this before, but I still suggest that you sell the 16x's and X HD cards and get a new Symphony IO. People have been having great results going that way. I realize you have a PC, but maybe it's time to go Mac. |

Re: Trying to go Native but stuck on issue
It was an Apogee Tech that told me the X-HD cards weren't working with Native HD. I would love to hear that they are wrong though. to go Symphony, I'd have to spend about as much as I did on AD16X series and then have to also buy a Mac. I don't think that's smart.

Re: Trying to go Native but stuck on issue
But based on what I've seen on Ebay, if you sold the 16x's and the X-HD cards, it would just about pay for the Symphony IO with one 8 in, 8 out card. Then you would just need to buy the Mac, but you could sell your PC and get something for it as well.

Re: Trying to go Native but stuck on issue
Tried a Rosetta 800 interface with the X-HD card hooked up to a native card and after my initial excitement at getting the system running it soon became apparent that it is completely unstable..
Would have been nice if Apogee just updated the firmware on the X-HD cards instead of telling everybody they are too old now and to buy a brand new interface.. I certainly won't be buying any 3rd party hardware to run with Pro Tools again so that's a win for Avid I guess! |
