Default Bounce To Disk Location not staying with Session

I swear before I updated to the latest version of PT that my bounce to disk location would stay with the session. As I switched sessions and started a new bounce, the bounce would be directed where ever I last directed it in that session (I usually direct to a MIX FILES folder outside of the Session Folder for various organizational reasons I won't get into).

Now, every time I bounce the default directory is where ever I last bounced to.

Example:
• Open session A.
• Bounce to disk -> MIX FILES folder of session A
• Close session A and open session B
• Bounce to disk -> change to MIX FILES folder of session B
• Close session B and open session A
• Bounce to Disk -> must change back to session B's MIX FILES folder.

I never used to need to switch the bounce location every time I switched sessions. Why now?

Default The most Annoying New Feature

It's not a deal breaker, but it sure is annoying. Pro Tools used to know that if I bounce out a file, that file goes in the Bounced Files folder of _that_ project by default. Almost, by magic!

Suddenly, without warning, any new bounce goes to the folder of the last project I bounced out by default. To find my new file, I have to first remember what the hell project I was working on previously, and move files by hand after-the-fact.

Either bring the intelligence back to intuitively know what project I'm working on, or demand that I make the path with each bounce. It's become a challenge to find new bounces with this new process. I was spoiled before, and can't adapt to this one easily.

Thanks.

I have not experienced that. Weird.

I don't know what you mean by suddenly. You list your PT version as 12.7. Since PT v2020.11 the Bounce Dialog has changed/improved (see attached screenshot). Now you can set the File Destination to any of the three options (Bounce folder, Prompt, Directory). The Bounce older option is the default so if you are used to that behavior then nothing has changed.

Yes, you can set the location to the session's Bounced Files folder now. What the bounce window no longer does is automatically bounce to the last directory used for that session - it seems to bounce to the last location used by any session. Very frustrating when you work with multiple artists and have to navigate to a different folder every time you bounce when before, it remembered the last location bounced to for that session.

I’ve been bouncing a lot of sessions over the last few months and never seen this take place.

May be annoying, but my workflow is bouncing realtime and always bounce to my own folders, so have not noticed at all. If you can reproduce this pls contact Avid Support and give as much as system details as possible. Even better if you can tell which was the last PT version you "think" this was working

Yes, I have been having go re-locate the Mix Bounce location every time I got to another session from a previous one. If you are working on multiple projects that are not inclusive to each other, I have found that after I was looking for a bounce file that is was in a whole other project folder. That's a new thing for me since the Mix Bounce has been updated. I just have to keep reminding myself to make sure that it's set to each project as I migrate from one to another. I will be escalating this up the chain now.

I just leave the bounce dialog set like this and it puts the files in the right place every time.
