Default AAX PLUGIN SHORTAGE, was it the same way the last time the format changed.

AAX PLUGIN SHORTAGE, was it the same way the last time the format changed.
Just wanted to ask that because I wasn't using PT then . My geuss is it was the same way and us leading edge people had the same problem. If it was the same way is it not logical to assume or believe that after a while (year or so longer) we should probably see alot more plugs being offered.

Or was the change over instant. From my reading on the web it wasnt and this is nothing new. So why is everybody surprised. Had I known I would have still wanted HDX but I may have waited a while longer.

nope - it was worse......people tend to forget that 11 years ago when PTHD came we didn't have that many plugins available in the first place...i remember waves (they had 20+ plugins) bombfactory and some plugs from drawmer focusrite and mcdsp.....but if i remember corectly the total amount of plugins that were available back then was around 70.....so by now - we have over 80 plugins in AAX DSP ready to go and over 100 AAX native plugins at least....so there are more then enough plugins out there to use HDX....

So this current situation is just normal then. Not out of the ordinary, even if surprising and unexpected.

But mix systems already used TDM plugins and there were no RTAS at the time and the amounts invested in plugins at the time was a lot less, digital recording and mixing wasn't as big as it is now and the plugin fest hadn't really started, people were still doing what they did with hardware and used maybe 2-3 plugins on a track so the cross-over wasn't as painfull. the biggest issue people have is not the shortage of plugins for HDX DSP but that they have $1000's invested in plugins that they own and like and have all over their sessions and want to keep using and many of the companies haven't committed to HDX yet! let alone DSP versions.

We're in an interim period and native is probably enough for a lot of users who want HDX now! but when 11 drops and Avid wants everyone to upgrade then those companies need to be onboard the DSP wagon. mosty native will work for a lot of peoples work flow but not everyone.

It's not unexpected at all. This entire PT10 era has been just an introduction to HDX and the future of Pro Tools in General. When a new 64bit pro Tools hits the streets, the game will undoubtedly change. Until then, it's just a warm up.

Compatibility with future AAX-only plug-ins are the only reason PT 10 needs any AAX plug-ins. Most AAX discussion is about vapourware unless it applies to the tiny few early HDX adopters.
